Corsight AI has become the first facial recognition company to achieve ISO 42001 certification, setting a new benchmark for transparency and accountability in AI systems. The certification requires organizations to demonstrate their ability to explain how their AI algorithms reach decisions.
The news comes as Corsight AI continues to expand its presence in various sectors, including retail security and law enforcement applications. The certification addresses growing concerns about the “black box” nature of AI systems, particularly in facial recognition technology.
Prof. Yaniskiy Ravid, Research Fellow at Yale Law School and Visiting Professor at Fordham Law School, emphasized the significance of this achievement: “AI models, including facial recognition algorithms, often operate as a ‘black box,’ where even the scientists who develop them may not fully understand how or why the AI reached a particular conclusion. Explainability is essential for AI models to provide a human-understandable explanation of how an algorithm arrives at a decision.”
The certification is particularly timely as legal and regulatory scrutiny of biometric technologies intensifies. Matan Noga, VP of Research and Development at Corsight AI, explained that their patented explainability module provides detailed insights into the system’s decision-making process, which is crucial for building trust and ensuring legal compliance.
Tony Porter, Corsight AI’s Chief Privacy Officer and former UK Surveillance Camera Commissioner, noted that the certification represents a significant step forward in addressing accountability concerns that have challenged facial recognition technology adoption. The company, which has been expanding its operations globally since 2019, works with law enforcement agencies and commercial entities to ensure compliance with local regulations.
